Ride your bike during National Bike Month
MAY IS NATIONAL BIKE MONTH!
Join the League of American Bicyclists and celebrate National Bike Month! Ride your bike proudly and show your support for pedal power. Bicycling is a wonderful activity that relieves stress, helps you get fit, and promotes a healthy lifestyle. It also helps to educate autos to help share the road. So, jump on that bike, put on your helmet and get all of your friends to bicycle too. You may just find out that you don’t want to go back to four wheels, when all you need is two. 🙂
National Bike to Work Week: May 14th – 18th
Commute to work this entire week for National Bike to Work Week. Save gas and find a healthier way to get to and from work. If the commute is too long, you can always take a bus for a portion and then ride the rest.
National Bike to Work Day: May 18th
If you can’t commute to work the entire week, try one day out of the year. National Bike to Work Day is Friday, May 18th, 2012. Show your office that you care about the environment and that you want to lead a fit and healthy lifestyle. Bike to work and invite your co-workers to join you.
Preparing for Bike to Work Week: Bicycle Maintenance
If you plan to bike to work, make sure your bike is tuned up and ready to go before you ride. Take your bicycle to a local bike store and ask them to check the brakes, gearing, tires, chains, etc… Whatever you do, don’t ride without first making sure your bike is in good working condition.
Don’t forget to protect your head! Wear your helmet whenever you ride a bike. Also, practice basic bicycle safety rules of the road. Use hand signals to tell drivers in cars what you are doing. Just like cars with turn signals, your hand signals help to relieve confusion with the traffic around you. It never hurts to ride safely. In fact, it could save a life.
